Chief Resident Forum

The Chief Resident Forum has been a long-standing tradition at the SAEM Annual Meeting, designed to train the next generation of leaders in emergency medicine (EM) through providing aspiring chief residents a balance of leadership training while preparing them for the practicalities of being a middle manager of residents.

The forum brings together residents from across the nation to network and share best practices in leading residency programs. All residents interested in building their leadership skills are encouraged to attend.

EM educational leaders will share their experience in engaging, practical sessions that prepare aspiring chief residents for the challenges inherent to the role while mindfully developing their leadership skills.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:

  • The participant will be able to describe communication skills that define effective leadership as a middle manager
  • Value equity, impartiality, and transparency when developing clinical schedules and recruitment efforts
  • Participant will develop an approach to maximize educational impact through mindful curriculum design
  • The participant will value the systematic approach to maintaining one's well being while leading
